Theo Haig’s Best Weapon Belongs to Novenyi Too

Theo Haig has won every professional fight by submission. Normally, that gives a fighter an identity. Against Norbert Novenyi Jr., it may give him a problem.

Haig returns to Dana White’s Contender Series one year after his first attempt ended in 36 seconds. He responded by submitting Lance Wright with a second-round rear-naked choke. Now his second DWCS opportunity comes against a favorite with five submission wins of his own, four knockouts and vastly more experience against established opposition.

Bookmaker Sportsbook’s opening line makes Theo Haig +326 and Norbert Novenyi Jr. -456.

Theo Haig’s Seven Wins Reveal the Trap

Haig is 7-1. Seven submissions. No knockout wins. No decisions. At 6-foot-2 with a 77.5-inch reach, he also has physical advantages over the 6-foot Novenyi, whose listed reach is 75 inches.

But Haig’s preferred destination is hardly safe territory. Novenyi’s five submission victories include rear-naked, arm-triangle, and triangle chokes. His current three-fight winning streak contains a triangle submission and two TKOs, all inside Round 1.

That makes Haig’s usual shortcut to victory considerably narrower.

Novenyi Has Already Met Resistance

The -456 price becomes easier to understand when the records are stripped of symmetry. Novenyi’s 10-1 record includes seven Bellator appearances. His only defeat was a majority decision against Dalton Rosta, meaning nobody has stopped him professionally. Haig’s only defeat came when Cezary Oleksiejczuk knocked him out during last year’s Contender Series appearance.

Novenyi has therefore already encountered a fight that refused to disappear quickly. Haig has not yet shown the same evidence against this level of opponent.

The Favorite Has More Exits

Haig’s clearest upset route is still dangerous: use the length, create a grappling transition and find the neck or back that has ended all seven of his victories.

The problem is what happens when Novenyi recognizes it. He can wrestle. He can submit. He can punish transitions with ground strikes. Unlike Haig, his professional record includes a meaningful striking-finish threat.

Prediction: Norbert Novenyi Jr. by first-round TKO.

At -456, Novenyi is expensive. Haig is simply being asked to upset a favorite who appears comfortable inside the underdog’s best phase.

Betting Lean: Norbert Novenyi Jr. -456.
