Ten Strikeouts Left Logan Gilbert Exposed
Logan Gilbert struck out 10 hitters in his latest start. He also allowed seven runs and four home runs in 4⅔ innings. That contradiction gives Thursday’s series finale its central question: can Texas turn enough of the contact between Gilbert’s strikeouts into damage before Jacob deGrom makes a 6.5-run total feel enormous?
DeGrom provides the other extreme. After allowing a career-high eight runs against Chicago, he responded with seven scoreless innings and one hit against the Athletics. Texas now sends him into a game it needs while sitting two games behind Houston in the AL West.
Bookmaker Sportsbook‘s opening line makes Seattle -125 and Texas +111, with Over 6.5 at -118 and Under 6.5 at +104. Seattle is -1.5 at +178.
The pick is Texas Rangers +111.
Four Home Runs Survived Ten Strikeouts
Logan Gilbert’s latest line against the Athletics was extraordinary for the wrong reason.
He generated 10 strikeouts in fewer than five innings but allowed eight hits and four home runs, all four homers arriving in the same inning. The strikeout ability clearly remains. Thursday asks what happens to the pitches Texas actually puts into play.
That gives Corey Seager and Jake Burger particular relevance after both homered Wednesday. Texas does not need sustained rallies against Gilbert if it can punish isolated mistakes before he reaches Seattle’s bullpen.

One Hit Followed DeGrom’s Worst Night
DeGrom’s previous two starts offer their own sharp contradiction.
Chicago scored eight runs against him on August 26, including six in the first inning. DeGrom described the performance afterward as especially frustrating because Texas could not afford starts like that during its playoff chase.
His response was seven scoreless innings against the Athletics, allowing one hit.
The correction matters more than the ERA. DeGrom enters Thursday at 10-9 with a 3.96 ERA and 174 strikeouts, while Seattle’s Julio Rodríguez owns a 7-for-18 career record against him. Rodríguez therefore provides an immediate test of whether the Oakland rebound travels to T-Mobile Park.

Muñoz Just Worked the Ninth
Wednesday also altered the late-game equation. Kade Anderson carried Seattle through six innings before the Mariners protected a 3-2 lead. Andrés Muñoz handled the ninth, striking out two while recording his 26th save. Seattle is already operating without Matt Brash, whose recurring lat inflammation ended his season.
That does not make the Mariners’ bullpen unavailable. It does make another tight game less automatically favorable once Gilbert exits.
Texas has a similar incentive to extract length from deGrom after Bradford provided only four innings Wednesday. The Rangers’ postseason position makes those innings particularly valuable: Houston remains two games ahead in the division after Wednesday’s loss in Philadelphia.
At +111, Texas does not need Gilbert’s previous start to repeat. It needs deGrom’s correction to hold while enough of Gilbert’s hittable pitches produce damage.
Betting lean: Texas Rangers +111. Gilbert’s 176 strikeouts and deGrom’s occasional volatility create the obvious risk, but the market is asking Texas to win rather than clear a margin. DeGrom’s seven-inning response provides the stronger recent pitching signal, while Gilbert’s 10-strikeout outing still left enough damaging contact to decide a game.
