Stoiana Brings Seventeen Breaks to Alexandra Eala
Mary Stoiana has already broken serve 17 times at this US Open. Alexandra Eala arrives on Tuesday having faced 17 break points in her most recent competitive match.
That coincidence gives their first-round meeting a sharper edge than the rankings suggest. Eala is the No. 17 seed and a -455 favorite at Bookmaker Sportsbook. Stoiana, ranked No. 122, is +334 and making her Grand Slam main-draw debut after winning three qualifying matches.
Twenty-Three Chances Came Before Tuesday
Stoiana created 13 break points against Katie Swan in the second qualifying round and converted six. Against Yue Yuan, she generated another 10 and converted seven.
Those are very different matches from facing Eala, but 23 break opportunities across six sets reveal what Stoiana brings into Tuesday: repeated access to opponents’ service games.
Her own description of her tennis helps explain the disruption. Stoiana considers herself an all-court player who likes using variety, coming forward, and finishing at the net. Her favorite shot is the slice backhand. Eala has not seen her before.
Seventeen Appeared on Alexandra Eala’s Serve
Eala’s Cincinnati match against Amanda Anisimova provides the other half of the matchup. Anisimova generated 17 break points against the Filipina and converted five.
Alexandra Eala landed 58% of her first serves, won 58% of those points, and 54% behind her second serve. She still took the opening set before losing in three.
Tuesday asks whether Stoiana can create comparable pressure without Anisimova’s established tour-level weight of shot.
Eala’s left-handed patterns, movement and ability to redirect from the baseline present a considerable jump from qualifying opposition. Stoiana’s variety gives her a way of making the favorite repeatedly solve different balls rather than simply exchanging pace.

Three Matches Have Removed One Unknown
Stoiana has never played in a Grand Slam main draw. However, she has spent the past week competing on these courts.
She beat Harmony Tan in straight sets, recovered after losing the opening set against Swan and then survived another three-set match against Yuan to qualify.
Alexandra Eala arrives with a different kind of familiarity. At US Open Media Day, she described her self-belief as having a “pretty strong baseline,” even when confidence fluctuates. She also enters as a Top 20 player for the first time at a major.
The Tennis Betting Hub and WTA Betting Guide provide the wider US Open context. Tuesday’s first problem is considerably narrower.

Five Games Separate Two Different Bets
Bookmaker Sportsbook prices Eala at -455 and Stoiana at +334. The handicap puts Eala -5 at -103 and Stoiana +5 at -119. The total sits at 20 games, with the over at -110 and the under at -111.
Alexandra Eala has the stronger baseline game, greater tour-level experience, and more reliable evidence against elite opposition.
But -455 and -5 are different propositions. Stoiana has already shown she can manufacture return opportunities and recover inside matches. Five games give that quality somewhere to matter even if Eala eventually imposes the higher level.
Prediction: Alexandra Eala in three sets.
Betting Lean: Mary Stoiana +5 Games (-119)
