Sasaki Gets Atlanta’s Second Test
Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -127
Projected score: Dodgers 5, Braves 3
The Dodgers have the cleaner starting-pitching argument Wednesday. Roki Sasaki faces AJ Smith-Shawver, with Bookmaker Sportsbook offering Los Angeles at -127, Atlanta at +113, and the total at 9.
Sasaki’s season ERA is still 4.42, but the current version matters more: he has allowed two earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts. Smith-Shawver is making only his third major-league start since Tommy John surgery and owns a 6.23 ERA across 8⅔ innings this season.
Six Starts Have Changed Sasaki’s Shape
Sasaki’s August line is more useful than his full-season ERA. Across three August starts, he has allowed six earned runs in 17 innings, good for a 3.18 ERA. His latest outing at Colorado produced five innings, two runs, six strikeouts and one walk.
Atlanta’s lineup is a demanding test because Ronald Acuña Jr., Matt Olson and Austin Riley can punish mistakes before Sasaki settles into his splitter. But fewer walks give those hitters fewer inherited advantages. His previous start against Milwaukee included five walks; Colorado produced only one.
For readers using the MLB Betting Hub, that control trend is more actionable than the 5-5 record attached to Sasaki’s name. The MLB Playoffs Betting Guide also matters here because both clubs are fighting for first-round byes, not simply division survival. Los Angeles remains ahead of Atlanta in that race despite Tuesday’s loss.
Atlanta Is Asking for One More Step
Smith-Shawver is only 14 months removed from Tommy John surgery. His return has been encouraging enough for Atlanta to use him in a six-man rotation, but Wednesday places a different workload on him. He has thrown only 8⅔ MLB innings this season, and the Dodgers can stack Ohtani, Freeman, Muncy and Tucker from the left side around Mookie Betts.
The Dodgers also forced Iglesias into a ninth-inning jam Tuesday after Ohtani tripled to lead off the inning. Atlanta escaped, but Iglesias and Dylan Dodd were both used in the opener.

The Price Still Leaves Room
Los Angeles lost Game 1 and still opened as the favorite. The market is asking whether Sasaki’s recent run is more trustworthy than Smith-Shawver’s small post-surgery sample.
At -127, that is the side worth taking.
