Sara Bejlek Has Run Out Of Famous Names To Fear
Sara Bejlek arrived in Cincinnati without a Top-10 win. She now has Aryna Sabalenka and Madison Keys behind her and Coco Gauff waiting in the semifinal.
The 20-year-old Czech has turned her first Cincinnati main draw into the week that changes how the rest of the tour sees her. Sabalenka led 5-1 in the opening set and 4-1 in the second. Bejlek won 7-6(7), 6-4. Keys took the opening set of their quarterfinal before Bejlek came back to win 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(5).
Gauff’s quarterfinal required rather less theatre. She beat Marta Kostyuk 6-2, 6-2 in 70 minutes, breaking six times to reach her second Cincinnati semifinal.
Sabalenka had Bejlek 5-1 down. Apparently, that wasn’t enough.
Being 5-1 Down Apparently Wasn’t Enough
Bejlek has not reached this semifinal by trying to outhit bigger women. Her left-handed game changes the picture instead.
She moves the ball into awkward areas, varies trajectory and uses angles to prevent opponents from planting themselves behind the baseline and unloading. Against Sabalenka, that became increasingly uncomfortable once the Czech survived the initial assault.
Bejlek won only 40% of her return points in that match, but she kept Sabalenka playing enough balls to expose the pressure behind the scoreboard. She recovered from huge deficits in both sets and won the important points rather than the easy ones.
Keys then presented another version of the same examination. She won the first set, but Sara Bejlek stayed. That has become the defining feature of her Cincinnati run.

Gauff Has Something Sabalenka And Keys Didn’t
Gauff does not need to end points quickly. Bejlek has frustrated power by disturbing rhythm. Gauff can survive without rhythm because her movement gives her time to rebuild points from positions that would finish them against most opponents.
The evidence against Kostyuk was emphatic. Kostyuk likes to take the ball early and attack before the defense settles. Gauff repeatedly made her play again, then used the shorter reply to reverse the rally. Six breaks followed.
The WTA’s own semifinal analysis identified the same problem for Bejlek: Gauff’s court coverage and shot variety are particularly well suited to handling the Czech’s higher, more varied trajectories.
There Is One Part Of Gauff’s Game That Bejlek Will Look For
The serve remains the obvious opening. Bejlek cannot expect to win enough neutral rallies simply by asking Gauff to move. She needs opportunities to begin points with Gauff already uncomfortable.
Second serves provide them. The left-handed return helps because it changes the angles Gauff has been seeing throughout the tournament. Bejlek can step forward, take time away, and immediately move the rally somewhere Gauff would rather not begin it.
She will need those chances. Her own serve does not provide many cheap points, and Gauff is too good a returner to allow repeated second serves into comfortable striking positions.

Five Names Have Disappeared. The Sixth Is Different.
Bejlek has beaten Karolina Pliskova, Barbora Krejcikova, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Sabalenka and Keys in Cincinnati. This stopped being a charming run several rounds ago.
Her 2026 season had already offered a warning. She began the year outside the Top 100, came through qualifying in Abu Dhabi and won seven matches to claim her first WTA title. Cincinnati has now produced her first Top-10 victory and first WTA 1000 semifinal.
Coco Gauff brings a different scale of problem. The American has already won Cincinnati, taking the title in 2023, and Saturday will be her fifth WTA 1000 semifinal of 2026. She has also looked increasingly authoritative since needing three sets against Liudmila Samsonova earlier in the tournament.
Bookmakers Are Finally Asking A Different Question
Gauff’s -370 moneyline reflects ranking, experience and matchup. Bejlek at +281 reflects everything she’s done this week, without pretending Sabalenka and Keys automatically make Gauff next.
The handicap is more interesting. Bookmaker Sportsbook gives Bejlek +5 games at -116, while Gauff -5 is -105. The total sits at 20.5.
Anyone following Cincinnati through our Tennis Betting Hub has now seen enough of Bejlek to stop pricing her as an unknown. The WTA Betting Guide offers a wider framework for evaluating game handicaps when an underdog’s recent results have moved faster than her established reputation.

What Happens When The Extra Ball Keeps Coming Back?
This is where the semifinal could turn. Bejlek’s variety can prevent Gauff from settling into predictable exchanges. Her left-handed forehand can pull her wide. Changes of height can keep the American from attacking at one comfortable contact point.
But Gauff can erase good attacking shots with her legs. Bejlek therefore has to construct points repeatedly without becoming impatient when the first opening fails to finish them.
Against Sabalenka and Keys, disruption created errors. Against Gauff, it may simply create another rally, and that is a considerably more tiring bargain.
There May Be A Better Bet Than Picking The Winner
Gauff should win. Her movement attacks the central mechanism behind Bejlek’s run, while her return game puts pressure on a serve that cannot consistently manufacture free points. But -370 offers little attraction.
Bejlek +5 at -116 asks something simpler: can a player who survived huge deficits against Sabalenka and three sets against Keys remain competitive enough to avoid a heavy defeat?
The evidence says yes. She can lose 6-4, 6-4 and cover comfortably.
Betting Lean: Sara Bejlek +5 Games (-116)
One More Giant, One Very Different Problem
Bejlek has already proved that power alone will not remove her from Cincinnati. Gauff does not need to try.
She can defend the angle, recover her position and make Bejlek find another solution. Over time, that should force the Czech to attack from progressively less comfortable positions.
Bejlek has made herself the story of the tournament. Gauff looks equipped to write the final sentence.
Prediction: Coco Gauff in straight sets
