Rongzhu Meets Rafa Garcia’s Pace Test
Rafa Garcia wants crowded fights. Rongzhu has become increasingly dangerous when opponents give him clean space. Saturday turns on which man gets to choose the distance.
Garcia’s three-fight winning streak has been built around forward pressure, clinch entries and persistent grappling threats. Rongzhu’s own three-fight run has coincided with better decision-making since joining City Kickboxing. If Garcia repeatedly collapses the space, does that evolution survive once Rongzhu has no room to settle?
Martinez Never Reached Minute Two
Rongzhu’s 70-second finish of Victor Martinez showed why the first clean exchange carries unusual weight here.
His second heavy calf kick dropped Martinez, and a right hand effectively finished the job. The sequence was economical: attack the base, draw the reaction, punish the opening.
That efficiency contrasts with UFC numbers that still reveal considerable volatility. Rongzhu lands 6.02 significant strikes per minute but absorbs 5.44, with 52% significant-strike defense. His 84% takedown defense further complicates Garcia’s route inside.
The significance is not simply whether Garcia completes takedowns. Failed entries can still shorten the distance and turn Rongzhu’s preferred striking space into clinches, breaks and hurried resets. Conversely, every unsuccessful approach creates another opportunity for Rongzhu’s speed and combinations.

Rafa Garcia Has Been Breaking Veterans Late
Garcia beat Vinc Pichel, stopped Jared Gordon in the third round and then outworked Alexander Hernandez by unanimous decision in April. Before facing Hernandez, Garcia identified pace as a defining part of his approach and said he did not intend to concede ground.
Rafa Garcia’s clinch entries, fence pressure, and level changes can disrupt Rongzhu without producing prolonged top position. The more frequently those exchanges force a reset, the less opportunity Rongzhu has to establish the rhythm that made the Martinez finish look almost clinical.
There is a price attached. Rongzhu’s improved patience makes reckless pressure increasingly punishable. Garcia crossing open space repeatedly gives a fast, powerful lightweight opportunities to attack his legs and intercept his entries.

City Kickboxing Changed Rongzhu’s Decisions
UFC’s fight-week assessment specifically credited Rongzhu with improved fight IQ since moving to City Kickboxing, highlighting his development in size, speed, and striking variety that first made him an intriguing prospect.
Earlier versions of Rongzhu were more willing to remain in extended exchanges. The current version has shown greater selectivity. Against Martinez, two damaging kicks were enough to change the fight before the right hand arrived.
Garcia therefore presents a useful stress test. His pressure creates precisely the crowded exchanges in which Rongzhu’s historical defensive numbers become relevant, while Rongzhu’s improved decision-making makes the journey into that range increasingly hazardous.
Prediction: Rafa Garcia by decision. Rongzhu should produce the cleaner individual moments, particularly at range, but Garcia’s durability and ability to combine pressure, clinch work and grappling threats can keep changing the geometry of the fight. Over three rounds, that variety gives him more opportunities to dictate where exchanges begin.
Betting Analysis
Bookmaker Sportsbook‘s opening line makes Rongzhu -160 and Rafa Garcia +140, with Over 2.5 rounds at -246 and Under 2.5 at +204.
Betting Lean: Rafa Garcia +140. Rongzhu’s improving decision-making and 84% takedown defense explain the favorite’s price. Garcia’s path, however, does not depend on repeatedly completing takedowns. If his pressure consistently removes the open space where Rongzhu looks best, +140 offers the more interesting side of the matchup.
