Reed Spent Fifteen Months Away. Now Shanelle Dyer Barges In

Shanelle Dyer has spent more than 100 fights in Muay Thai and kickboxing learning what happens when an opponent gives her room to accelerate. Elise Reed’s job on Saturday is to deny her exactly that.

Dyer made her UFC debut in London by stopping Ravena Oliveira with knees and punches at 1:17 of the second round. She enters Sacramento at 7-1 with five knockout victories. Reed returns after a 15-month absence following her TKO loss to Denise Gomes in May 2025.

Dyer lands 7.71 significant strikes per minute. Reed lands 3.41. Is that gap enough to guarantee the result?

Gomes Left Something on Tape Dyer Will Recognise

Dyer’s background centers on pressure striking. She works comfortably behind kicks, closes distance quickly, and has enough variety to punish opponents who retreat in straight lines. Against Oliveira, Dyer secured the finish by increasing the pressure rather than chasing it immediately. UFC lists 87% of her significant strikes as standing offense.

Reed is also primarily a striker, but her game is more dependent on timing and distance. She has landed 53% of her significant strikes across her UFC career and absorbs only 3.26 per minute, considerably below Dyer’s 6.72.

Gomes landed 28 significant strikes to Reed’s 11 before stopping her 30 seconds into the second round. Reed has also been stopped by Sijara Eubanks and Sam Hughes.

Four UFC Wins Show Another Version of Reed

Reed has won four UFC fights, all by decision, including victories over Jessica Penne, Jinh Yu Frey, Melissa Martinez and Cory McKenna.

Those wins matter because Reed has shown she can manage three rounds when she establishes her preferred rhythm. Against Penne, she landed 117 significant strikes to 54 and stayed disciplined without needing a finish.

Reed needs lateral movement, interruptions, and enough clinch work to stop Dyer setting her feet. Even an unsuccessful takedown attempt can force a reset. Dyer’s official profile lists 100% takedown defense, but that number comes from a very small UFC sample and shouldn’t be treated as proof that wrestling is off the table.

Reed’s own takedown defense is 53%. If Dyer chooses to mix phases rather than attack exclusively at range, Reed has another problem to solve.

Reed’s route is less spectacular but still relevant for anyone reading the MMA/UFC Betting Hub or working through the UFC Betting Guide. Her four UFC wins all came by decision, and each required her to manage distance long enough to keep the fight from turning into the kind of sustained pocket battle Dyer prefers. That history doesn’t erase the stoppage losses, but it does show the version of Reed who can make this matchup far less straightforward than the price suggests.

The Layoff Is Long. Dyer’s Fight Clock Is Longer.

Reed has completed five UFC decisions and owns an average fight time of 10:50. Her conditioning over three rounds is established. Her inactivity is not.

She has not competed since May 17, 2025. Dyer fought in March and has been preparing for her second UFC appearance with the pace of her debut still fresh.

Dyer’s professional career is much younger, but her combat-sports experience is not. UFC notes more than 100 Muay Thai and K-1 bouts, plus an 8-3 amateur MMA record.

That experience shows in her willingness to increase output without immediately losing structure.

Sooner or Later, Reed Has to Stand Her Ground

Reed can make this competitive if she keeps Dyer turning, attacks the legs and refuses to remain directly in front of her after combinations.

The danger arrives whenever Reed’s back approaches the fence.

Dyer is younger, two inches taller, carries the heavier finishing threat, and has already shown she can sustain high output before finding the stoppage. Reed’s 51% striking defense is respectable, but her recent knockout loss and previous stoppages leave little margin against a fighter who has finished five of seven professional wins with strikes.

Technical Prediction: Shanelle Dyer by second-round TKO.

Betting Analysis

Bookmaker Sportsbook lists Dyer at -720, with Reed returning at +482. The total is set at 2.5 rounds, with the under at -150 and the over at +122.

The moneyline demands an enormous premium for Dyer. The total asks a different question.

Reed has been stopped in three of her five UFC defeats, including the second-round loss to Gomes in her most recent appearance. Dyer owns five knockouts in seven professional victories and finished Oliveira in Round 2 in her UFC debut.

Betting Lean

Reed’s experience makes -720 difficult to justify as a standalone position. Under 2.5 rounds is more closely tied to the matchup.

Dyer’s volume should force Reed into defensive exchanges early, and Reed has previously struggled when opponents sustain pressure through the pocket rather than giving her time to reset at range.

Betting Lean: Under 2.5 rounds (-150)
