Lamar Jackson Finds Dallas Missing Four
Dallas spent the week preparing for two runners who can turn one hesitation into six points. Then four defenders disappeared from the equation.
Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, cornerback Cobie Durant and safeties Malik Hooker and P.J. Locke are out against Baltimore. Rookie Jaishawn Barham takes the defensive green dot, placing the communication of a reshuffled unit directly in front of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry.
Brian Schottenheimer’s description of defending Henry was revealing: create knockback and make him hesitate. Jackson makes hesitation expensive in the other direction.
Bookmaker Sportsbook‘s opening line has Baltimore -3.5 (-105), Dallas +3.5 (-111), with the total at 53.5. My pick is Ravens -3.5, with Baltimore winning 31-24.
Barham Gets Lamar Jackson in His Helmet
The green dot is more than decoration against Baltimore. Dallas’ rookie linebacker becomes the voice connecting a defense missing experience behind him, while Lamar Jackson changes the arithmetic before the snap. Henry can punish a light box. Jackson can punish the extra body sent toward Henry.
Dallas has already seen dual-threat quarterbacks create uncomfortable sequences through two games. Baltimore brings the version where the quarterback shares the backfield with a 247-pound alternative.

Henry Turns Hesitation Into Geometry
Schottenheimer’s word was “knockback.” That describes Dallas’ problem neatly.
Henry’s downhill acceleration rewards a defensive front that loses its first collision, but simply flooding the box exposes the space around Jackson. Dallas therefore enters Rio balancing two conflicting responses while its secondary operates without Hooker, Locke and Durant.
The Ravens have their own uncertainty. Zay Flowers returned to practice Friday on a limited basis after missing Week 2 with his hamstring injury and remains questionable. Baltimore scored four touchdowns on five drives with Flowers on the field in Week 1 and three on 16 drives after his injury. That availability could change how violently Baltimore stretches Dallas horizontally.

Prescott Wants Baltimore Moving Backward
Dak Prescott is not approaching this as a survival exercise. He said Dallas wants to “be the aggressors” against Jesse Minter’s defense, with the Cowboys using last year’s meeting with Minter’s Chargers as part of their preparation.
That matters because Baltimore’s defensive front could look different too. Nnamdi Madubuike is off the final injury report and poised for his season debut after missing the opening two games with a neck injury.
Dallas therefore has its own route into the game: Prescott forcing Baltimore to defend CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens before Madubuike and the pass rush can dictate downs.
Three and a Half Prices Communication
Dallas’ offense gives +3.5 legitimate appeal. Prescott is coming off a four-touchdown performance, and Baltimore may again operate without a full-strength Flowers.
The other side carries the stranger problem.
Dallas is replacing defenders and transferring communication responsibility while preparing for Jackson and Henry simultaneously. One mistaken fit can become Henry’s lane. One defender chasing that lane can become Jackson’s.
Baltimore doesn’t have to confuse Dallas. The Ravens can wait for Dallas to confuse itself.
