Krueger Wants Anisimova’s Kind Of Fight
Ashlyn Krueger has described her best tennis in unusually useful terms. “I want to make someone feel like they don’t have any time.”
That worked spectacularly during her grass-court summer. Against Amanda Anisimova on a New York hard court, it creates a more dangerous question: what happens when Krueger accelerates exchanges against one of the cleanest first-strike ball-strikers in the women’s game?
Bookmaker Sportsbook makes Anisimova -588, Krueger +418, with the favorite giving 5.5 games at +104.
The moneyline says mismatch. The matchup itself is considerably more interesting.
Krueger’s Breakthrough Came Somewhere Else
Krueger arrives ranked No. 62 after reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon, her first appearance in the second week of a major.
Her grass season was exceptional: 16-2. Her 2026 hard-court record is 8-10.
The distinction becomes harder to ignore after her final preparation. Krueger lost 6-3, 6-2 to Lois Boisson in Cincinnati, then entered the WTA 125 event in Philadelphia and lost 6-4, 6-4 to Julia Grabher five days before the US Open.
Grabher converted all five of her break opportunities. Krueger generated nine and converted three. The aggression is still producing openings. It is not consistently protecting her own serve.

Anisimova Has Been Finding Herself Again
Anisimova’s season has included a wrist injury and enough interruptions that she admitted earlier this month she was tired of thinking about “off-seasons.”
Something changed during the North American swing. After reconnecting with former coach Rick Vleeshouwers, Anisimova said she felt like herself on court again after missing that feeling for several months.
Cincinnati supplied evidence. She beat Alexandra Eala and world No. 6 Linda Noskova before taking Jessica Pegula to 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(4) in the quarterfinal. Against Pegula, Anisimova converted all five break points she created and won 67% of her first-serve points.
She enters New York 15-8 on hard courts this season.
Four Years Ago Left A Clue
Their only previous meeting came on a San Jose hard court in 2022. Anisimova won 6-2, 7-6(5).
Four years makes that result evidence, not prophecy. Krueger is a different player now, physically and mentally. She has spoken openly about struggling with the attention that followed her rise into the Top 30 and the internal work that came with it.
Her game remains deliberately aggressive. That is what makes this particular favorite uncomfortable to oppose.
Krueger’s preferred pattern does not naturally force Anisimova away from her strengths. It invites a contest over who can seize the baseline first.

The Favorite Has A Better Price
Anisimova at -588 offers little attraction. The -5.5 games at +104 does.
She covered that number in their previous meeting, while Krueger has recently lost in straight sets to Boisson and Grabher. Anisimova’s Cincinnati run ended one tiebreak short of beating the world No. 3.

Prediction: Amanda Anisimova in straight sets
Betting lean: Amanda Anisimova -5.5 games +104
Krueger wants to make the match fast. The problem is who may enjoy that speed more.
