Julia Polastri Stopped Trying to Impress Everyone
Julia Polastri has decided the best way to impress people is to stop trying. Ahead of Saturday’s strawweight fight with Xiong Jingnan in Shanghai, Polastri admitted she changed after reaching the UFC. Before signing, she fought for herself. Inside the Octagon, she became conscious of producing performances.
Now she says she wants to “shine by just being me.” That is not merely fight-week philosophy. Xiong presents exactly the kind of opponent who can punish unnecessary ambition.
Hill Left 122 Reasons to Notice
Xiong entered the UFC in May carrying a 19-2 record and a résumé built around her long reign as ONE Championship’s strawweight champion. Angela Hill immediately tested whether that striking game would translate cleanly.
It didn’t. Hill landed 122 significant strikes to Xiong’s 68 and won all three rounds on every scorecard. Xiong’s output actually declined from 23 significant strikes in Round 1 to 20 in Round 3 while Hill’s climbed from 36 to 44.
Julia Polastri produces volume differently. She averages 6.40 significant strikes per minute, lands at 54% accuracy, and works willingly to the body and legs. Against Karolina Kowalkiewicz, she landed 137 significant strikes before securing the third-round TKO.
Xiong has already discovered that UFC strawweights don’t wait politely at the boxing range.

Seventy-Eight Strikes Still Lost the Fight
Polastri’s April loss to Talita Alencar provides the other half of Saturday’s puzzle. She landed 78 of 111 significant strikes, compared with Alencar’s 60 of 195, yet lost 29-28 on all three scorecards. Alencar landed three takedowns and accumulated 2:27 of control.
Xiong is unlikely to reproduce that route. She attempted no takedowns against Hill and built her championship career primarily around striking.
Polastri acknowledged the attraction herself: “She’s a striker, I’m a striker.” She also expects both women to have surprises prepared.
For readers using the MMA/UFC Betting Hub and UFC Betting Guide, that distinction is central. Polastri’s defensive wrestling can be attacked. Xiong is not obviously the fighter equipped to make it the central question.

One UFC Fight Changed the Price
Bookmaker Sportsbook makes Polastri a substantial -236 favorite, with Xiong at +196. The total of 2.5 rounds is priced heavily toward the over at -360, against +289 on the under.
Xiong owns the deeper championship résumé and 11 career knockout wins. Polastri owns the evidence produced under current UFC conditions.
Her volume, body work and willingness to sustain combinations give her the tools Hill used to keep Xiong reacting rather than setting her own offense.
Technical Prediction: Julia Polastri by unanimous decision.
Betting Lean: Julia Polastri Moneyline (-236)
