Josh Sargent Loses His Most Useful Supplier
Josh Sargent finally produced the performance Toronto FC have been waiting for. Four days later, the midfielder who helped unlock it will be watching.
Sargent scored his first professional hat trick in Saturday’s 4-4 draw with Chicago, with Djordje Mihailovic directly involved in all three goals. Mihailovic then left with a hamstring injury, and Robin Fraser has confirmed he will miss “a couple of weeks.”
That absence arrives against an unforgiving opponent. Nashville SC have conceded only 17 goals in 23 MLS matches and five away from home, while Brian Schwake has 11 shutouts.
Bookmaker Sportsbook‘s opening line has Nashville SC at +136, Toronto FC at +198, and the draw at +257. My prediction is Nashville 2-1, with Nashville -0.5 at +130 the betting lean.
Three Josh Sargent Goals Lost One Connection
Mihailovic’s importance Saturday went beyond two official assists. His clipped pass released Sargent for the first goal, his deflected attempt created the second, and his layoff preceded Sargent’s third.
Fraser cannot simply replace that relationship with another player. He acknowledged on Tuesday that “there’s no other Djordje,” although Toronto now has additional attacking options. Lewis Morgan could make his first start after an encouraging debut, while Derrick Etienne Jr. scored Saturday’s stoppage-time equalizer.
The intriguing piece is Morgan. Fraser liked the ideas he saw despite the Scot entering against Chicago before he had even trained with his new teammates. A Sargent-Morgan combination would therefore be potentially dangerous and almost completely unrehearsed.

Nashville’s Five Away Goals Travel
Toronto have scored 13 goals during their six-match unbeaten run. Nashville have scored 14 during theirs.
Those streaks have been built very differently. Toronto has repeatedly recovered from deficits, including four comeback draws since the World Cup break. Fraser’s verdict after Chicago was less celebratory: “We’re too good to be in a hole every week.”
Nashville have allowed the fewest away goals in MLS and recorded seven road shutouts. Maxwell Woledzi has started more matches than any Nashville outfield player and leads the team in passing success while anchoring a defense with 11 clean sheets overall.
Toronto’s habit of recovering becomes considerably less reassuring against a team that rarely provides the first opening.

Dorsch Returns to a Different Midfield
Niklas Dorsch is available after missing three matches following a facial fracture. His return gives Fraser another midfielder who can carry possession forward while Mihailovic is absent. Jonathan Osorio remains unavailable, while Alejandro Piedrahita cannot play because of visa issues.
Nashville brings their own scheduling complication. Wednesday is the second of three road matches in eight days, and B.J. Callaghan’s team managed only two shots on target in Friday’s 0-0 draw at NYCFC. Nashville have won only once in four road matches since the World Cup break.
Callaghan nevertheless said there were “a lot of positives” to carry into Toronto. The numbers support his patience: Nashville are 16-2-5 and ten points clear atop the Supporters’ Shield standings.

Plus 130 Prices the Difference
The total asks Nashville to participate in another open Toronto game. Their five away goals conceded suggest that it is far from automatic.
Nashville -0.5 offers the cleaner argument. Toronto’s attack is improving, but its most productive recent combination has just lost a central piece against the league’s strongest defense.
Betting Lean
Nashville SC -0.5 at +130.
Prediction: Nashville SC 2, Toronto FC 1.
