Jake Bennett Finds Texas From His Wrong Side

Jake Bennett has been far tougher on left-handed hitters than right-handers. Texas is positioned to make that distinction matter.

Bennett has held lefties to a .401 OPS this season, compared with .726 against right-handed hitters. The Rangers can surround Corey Seager with Josh Jung, Jake Burger, Wyatt Langford and Ezequiel Duran, turning Wednesday into a specific test: can Bennett keep Texas’ right-handed bats from lifting the ball after surrendering three homers in his last start?

Bookmaker Sportsbook’s opening line makes Boston +100 and Texas -113, with Over 8 at -104, Under 8 at -109, Boston +1.5 (-210) and Texas -1.5 (+182).

Three Homers Follow Jake Bennett South

Bennett enters at 9-7 with a 3.69 ERA and 83 strikeouts across 105 innings. His broader season remains solid, but the shape of his latest start matters against this particular lineup: the Angels collected nine hits and three home runs while scoring six times in 5⅓ innings.

Texas already showed its preferred construction against a left-handed starter on Tuesday, loading the lineup with right-handed bats around Seager. That same flexibility is available against Jake Bennett, with Jung healthy again after returning from his calf injury.

Gore’s Strikeouts Have Gone Quiet

MacKenzie Gore gives Texas a very different problem.

The left-hander still owns 172 strikeouts, but his last two starts produced only three across seven innings. Tampa Bay reached him for five runs in three innings before Arizona scored four in four. His ERA has climbed to 4.62.

That loss of swing-and-miss matters against a Boston lineup that has Willson Contreras back in the middle. Contreras returned from his hamstring strain Sunday and leads Boston with 26 homers and 79 RBIs.

Gore therefore enters with less margin for traffic than his strikeout total initially suggests. Boston can stack right-handed threats around Roman Anthony and Wilyer Abreu, creating the same handedness puzzle Texas presents Bennett.

Five Outs Changed Texas’ Bullpen Math

Tuesday also left one relevant late-game wrinkle. Jacob Latz recorded five outs for his 30th save, escaping a bases-loaded eighth before finishing the ninth. Texas used four relievers for four scoreless innings after Jacob deGrom departed.

That does not make Latz unavailable, but another extended assignment would be a different proposition less than 24 hours later. Jake Bennett’s ability to work deeper therefore carries extra value for Boston if Gore exits early again.

The matchup still tilts slightly toward Texas because Bennett’s platoon split intersects directly with the Rangers’ lineup construction, while his recent home-run exposure creates a second route to damage.

Prediction: Rangers 5, Red Sox 4.

Betting Lean: Texas -113. Gore’s recent form keeps this close to a true coin flip, but Texas has the clearer offensive mechanism against Bennett: multiple right-handed bats attacking the weaker side of his season-long split.
