Islam Dulatov vs Wellington Turman Prediction: How Long Can Experience Hold Back The Violence?

Islam Dulatov does not spend much time allowing opponents to understand what is happening. His UFC debut lasted four minutes and six seconds. Adam Fugitt tried to stay composed, found occasional success in the exchanges, and still ended the first round on the canvas after Dulatov’s right hand broke through. Before that, Dulatov earned his contract by knocking out Vanilto Antunes with an elbow during Dana White’s Contender Series. Two appearances under the UFC spotlight, two first-round finishes.

Wellington Turman has been inside the Octagon with far more experienced opposition. He has fought through bad positions, absorbed damage and won fights through grappling rather than waiting for perfect striking exchanges. He also arrives after more than two and a half years without competing.

That creates the real question in Abu Dhabi for the Islam Dulatov vs Wellington Turman bout. Can Turman make Dulatov experience the kind of fight that begins after the first wave has failed?

Dulatov Wants The Fight Before It Becomes Complicated

Dulatov is tall, long, and physically sharp at welterweight. He does not use that length merely to stay safe behind a jab. He steps into range with genuine finishing intent, throws hard enough to force hurried reactions, and then attacks the opening created by the first exchange. Fugitt survived much of the opening round, but he was continually being asked to make defensive decisions while Dulatov remained the fresher, more dangerous man.

The Russian-born German prospect has seven knockout victories among his 12 professional wins. His last two appearances ended with decisive head strikes before the first horn.

Turman cannot afford to spend the opening minutes retreating in straight lines. Dulatov’s reach advantage becomes more damaging when an opponent is moving backwards without giving him anything else to think about.

Turman needs contact, resistance and ugly positions. He needs Dulatov carrying weight, defending grips and working through resets rather than loading another clean right hand.

Turman Must Turn Experience Into Friction

Turman has eight submission victories and has always been more comfortable when a fight becomes physical at close range. His best path is not a prolonged kickboxing contest against a younger opponent with a three-inch height and reach advantage. It is to crowd Dulatov, reach the body lock and make the favourite repeatedly defend his hips.

The problem is getting there without paying for every entry.

Turman absorbs 4.17 significant strikes per minute and stops only 45% of the significant strikes attempted against him. His takedown defence sits at 42%, while his own takedown accuracy is only 20%. Those figures were accumulated against a deeper body of UFC opposition than Dulatov has faced, but they still describe a fighter who has often been forced to work through damage rather than avoiding it.

That durability can extend fights. It can also become a dangerous habit against someone who does not need many clean connections.

The Layoff May Matter Immediately

Turman last fought on 2 December 2023, when Jared Gooden submitted him with a rear-naked choke at 1:11 of the second round. Turman had landed meaningful offence before the finish, but Gooden survived the danger, reversed the momentum and ended the fight once Turman’s position deteriorated.

Returning after such a long absence would be difficult against a measured opponent.

Dulatov is not measured in the conventional sense. He forces the body to react before the mind has settled. Timing, distance recognition and the willingness to remain composed after the first clean punch are exactly the things that can feel unfamiliar after years outside the cage.

Turman’s experience gives him possible answers. The layoff may delay how quickly he finds them.

Reading The Price Without Inventing Certainty

Dulatov opened at around -1040 at Bookmaker Sportsbook, with Turman offered at approximately +683. Those numbers clearly describe the expectation: Dulatov is supposed to win, and he is supposed to make the difference in speed and power visible quickly.

They do not prove that he has already answered every question. Dulatov has completed only one UFC fight. His takedown defence has not yet been tested across meaningful minutes, his cardio has not been stretched through three hard rounds, and nobody at this level has forced him to rebuild a fight after losing momentum.

That is the discipline behind reading MMA betting lines without overreacting. The favorite can be the correct pick while the straight moneyline remains too expensive to justify. Readers comparing similarly lopsided bouts can explore the MMA/UFC Betting Hub, while the UFC Betting Guide explains why method, round, and total-round selections may reveal more than simply backing a dominant favorite.

Can Turman Survive The First Round?

The total at Bookmaker Sportsbook is set at 1.5 rounds, with the under priced at -274 and the over available at +225.

Turman has reached the second round in seven of his nine UFC appearances. He has also suffered three first-round knockout defeats during his professional career, and his defensive numbers leave very little room for a slow start against Dulatov.

The Brazilian’s clearest opportunity comes after the opening five minutes. Dulatov has spent only 4:06 inside the UFC Octagon and has not been required to manage his output through a difficult second or third round. If Turman survives the first burst, forces clinches and makes Dulatov repeatedly separate from grappling exchanges, the texture of the fight could change.

But surviving that first burst is no small matter. It is the entire fight.

Islam Dulatov vs Wellington Turman Prediction

Turman has the experience and grappling background to expose parts of Dulatov’s game that remain untested. Unfortunately, he must cross open space against a taller, faster and more destructive striker before any of those questions become relevant.

Dulatov should use his reach to draw Turman into hurried entries, punish the Brazilian as he closes distance and force a finish before the fight has time to become physically complicated.

Prediction: Islam Dulatov by first-round knockout.

The under 1.5 rounds is the logical direction, although the -274 price already demands an early finish and leaves little margin for Turman’s durability.
