Iga Swiatek vs Marta Kostyuk Prediction: Can Toronto Produce a Different Answer?

Marta Kostyuk already knows what it feels like to make Iga Swiatek uncomfortable. She did considerably more than that at Roland Garros.

Kostyuk beat the four-time Paris champion 7-5, 6-1 in May, turning what had previously been a one-sided rivalry into something much more interesting. Swiatek had won their first three professional meetings without dropping a set. Kostyuk finally broke through when it mattered most.

Now they meet again in the Toronto round of 16, and the surface changes almost everything in this Iga Swiatek vs Marta Kostyuk rematch.

Both Arrive in Rhythm

Swiatek, currently ranked No. 8 and seeded seventh in Toronto, has looked increasingly comfortable through the opening rounds. She followed a dominant opening victory with a 6-2, 6-1 dismissal of Viktorija Golubic in just 66 minutes, recovering immediately from an early break and then winning seven consecutive games across the two sets.

Kostyuk, ranked No. 13 and seeded 10th, arrives with equal conviction. She beat Madison Keys 6-3, 6-1, reversing two previous defeats to the American and returning to the Canadian Open fourth round after reaching last year’s quarterfinals.

This is not a favorite against the hopeful outsider. It is a rematch between two players already striking the ball cleanly.

Swiatek Needs the Baseline to Belong to Her

When Swiatek controls the center of the court, rallies start shrinking for her opponent. She takes the ball early, drives the backhand through the court, and repeatedly forces defenders into wider positions until the short ball appears. Her return game remains particularly punishing: WTA season statistics list her among the tour leaders in return games won and return points won.

Golubic tried to change the rhythm with slice and variety. Swiatek waited for the right ball to attack. Kostyuk will ask a much more physical question.

She can absorb pace, redirect quickly and hold her position close enough to the baseline that Swiatek does not automatically gain territory with every heavy groundstroke. That was central to what happened in Paris.

Kostyuk Cannot Allow Swiatek to Settle

Kostyuk’s victory over Keys showed exactly why she is dangerous here. She did not need endless rallies. She took time away. Against Swiatek, that becomes essential.

If Kostyuk retreats and allows the Pole to dictate from inside the baseline, she may spend the afternoon defending progressively heavier balls from progressively worse court positions.

Her forehand therefore needs depth early in rallies. So does the first serve.

Swiatek leads the WTA in second-serve return points won this season, making weak second deliveries especially costly. Kostyuk cannot serve merely to begin the point. She needs to begin it without immediately surrendering the baseline.

Paris Matters, But Toronto Is Different

The temptation is to treat Roland Garros as the blueprint. It is better viewed as proof.

Kostyuk proved she can tolerate Swiatek’s weight of shot, stay aggressive under scoreboard pressure and convert opportunities against her.

Toronto offers faster courts and shorter reaction times. That should help Swiatek’s first-strike tennis more than the clay did. Her ability to take returns early and redirect through the backhand wing becomes harder to neutralize when the ball reaches the baseline sooner.

This is where the Tennis Betting Hub becomes useful. Head-to-head results matter, but surface, current rhythm, and tactical compatibility matter just as much. The WTA Betting Guide warns against treating one recent result as destiny.

Betting Analysis

Bookmaker Sportsbook lists Swiatek at -154 and Kostyuk at +125. The handicap is Swiatek -2.5 games at -112, while the total sits at 21 games, with the over priced at -118.

The moneyline is much tighter than their ranking gap might suggest, and rightly so. Kostyuk owns the most recent meeting and arrives after overwhelming Keys.

Swiatek, however, has looked increasingly authoritative in Toronto and should benefit more from the quicker conditions.

Iga Swiatek vs Marta Kostyuk Betting Lean

This should be far more competitive than Swiatek’s first two matches. Kostyuk has the rally tolerance and confidence to make her work, but Toronto gives Swiatek more opportunity to take control early in points and attack second serves.

Expect pressure in both directions before Swiatek gradually establishes the stronger court position.

Betting Lean: Iga Swiatek Moneyline (-154)

Projected Score: Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-4
