Ian Seymour Makes Tampa’s Bullpen the Question
Ian Seymour can make Sunday much simpler for Tampa Bay. The question is whether his strikeout surge can keep it that way long enough.
The left-hander struck out 10 Mets over 6⅓ innings Monday without issuing a walk, generating 19 swinging strikes. Texas counters with MacKenzie Gore, another left-hander, while Tampa enters the finale with some unusual late-inning uncertainty after consecutive close games.
Bookmaker Sportsbook opening line makes Tampa Bay -104 and Texas -108, with the total at 7.5. The betting lean is Tampa Bay -104.
Nineteen Whiffs Changed Ian Seymour’s Profile
Seymour’s 4.21 ERA does not fully describe what he has been doing. He has struck out at least seven hitters in four of his last five starts, culminating in Monday’s 10-strikeout performance. He threw 65 of 88 pitches for strikes and produced 19 whiffs, with his fastball-changeup combination accounting for 12.
The unresolved part is damage rather than command. Seymour has allowed at least three earned runs in four consecutive starts. Against Texas, missing bats therefore matters because it reduces the number of balls that can turn traffic into crooked innings.

Tampa’s Ninth Inning Keeps Getting Smaller
Bryan Baker’s status changes the value of Seymour’s length.
The MLB saves leader left Friday’s ninth inning after his fastball velocity fell sharply while he dealt with dehydration. Baker said afterward that he did not expect the illness to linger, but Tyler Wells had to finish that game and was back on the mound Saturday, working the 10th inning.
Tampa also placed Garrett Cleavinger on the injured list with forearm tightness this weekend, while Shane McClanahan went to the IL with his own forearm issue.
That does not make the Rays bullpen unusable. It makes every inning Seymour removes from its responsibility more valuable.
The MLB Playoffs Betting Guide provides additional context for September games in which postseason position begins affecting pitching deployment as much as season-long numbers.

Gore Doesn’t Get the Same Margin
Gore enters at 8-10 with a 4.31 ERA, 169 strikeouts and 60 walks across 154⅔ innings.
Texas has its own late-game complication. Saturday extended into the 10th before Jonathan Aranda’s three-run homer broke the tie, forcing the Rangers to work beyond the normal nine-inning bullpen script.
That is where the near pick’em price becomes interesting. Neither side enters with a pristine relief situation, so the starter most capable of removing plate appearances altogether carries additional value.
The risk is Seymour’s recent run prevention. His strikeouts have climbed without preventing three or more earned runs in four straight starts, and Texas has already shown it can create late pressure in this series.
But -104 asks very little for the team with the American League’s best record and a starter coming off 10 strikeouts without a walk. If Seymour’s fastball-changeup combination produces anything close to Monday’s swing-and-miss level, Tampa can postpone its bullpen problem long enough.
Tampa Bay Rays -104 is the betting position.
