Gasser Draws Chicago Cubs’ Dangerous Side
Pick: Chicago Cubs -125
Robert Gasser against Matthew Boyd gives Chicago a matchup worth backing at -125. Gasser has held left-handed hitters to a .175 average and .320 slugging percentage this season. Right-handers have hit .292 with a .489 slugging percentage and 11 home runs against him. Chicago can stack the side of the plate where that difference becomes difficult to ignore.
How Many Righties Can Robert Gasser Dodge?
Alex Bregman, Seiya Suzuki, Nico Hoerner, Matt Shaw and Carson Kelly give Craig Counsell multiple right-handed options against Gasser. Pete Crow-Armstrong supplies the left-handed interruption rather than forcing Chicago to build an entirely one-sided lineup.
Gasser’s arsenal explains some of the split. His changeup and sweeper give him weapons that move away from or underneath left-handed bats, but right-handers have produced far more damage across his 53⅔ innings against them.
The four-seamer has recently sat around 94 mph, while the changeup has operated around 88 and the sweeper around 80-82. Chicago’s right-handers therefore get several different shapes without an overwhelming velocity problem. Gasser has allowed 13 home runs this season. Right-handers own 11 of them.
Boyd Gets A Different Version Of Milwaukee
Boyd carries his own platoon imbalance into Tuesday. Right-handed hitters have a .252 average and 14 home runs against him, compared with a .213 average and one homer for lefties.
Milwaukee can answer with William Contreras, Jackson Chourio and Cooper Pratt among its right-handed bats. Boyd’s most recent start against Arizona nevertheless produced seven innings and one earned run, with the only damage a Jordan Lawlar solo homer.
That makes the middle of Milwaukee’s order the counterweight to Chicago’s advantage against Gasser, rather than turning Tuesday into a simple lefty-versus-righty exercise.

Uribe Changes Milwaukee’s Late-Inning Map
Milwaukee activated Abner Uribe from the injured list before this series after a forearm injury had kept him out since August 11. Uribe returned carrying a 2.05 ERA, six saves and 48 strikeouts in 48⅓ innings. Bryse Wilson went onto the IL with a lower-back strain in the corresponding move.
Gasser also threw 5⅓ innings in emergency relief last Wednesday, then did not pitch again before Tuesday. His previous scheduled start had lasted only 3⅔ innings.

Can Boyd Leave Enough Unanswered?
Chicago Cubs’ advantage is concentrated in the innings Gasser pitches. Boyd does not remove Milwaukee’s right-handed threat, but Gasser has spent an entire season producing markedly different results depending on which batter’s box is occupied.
At -125, that is enough.
