Four Tour Championship 2026 Round 1 Matchups Worth Playing
The Tour Championship 2026 outright board asks who can survive four days at East Lake. Thursday’s matchup board asks something much simpler. Who beats one golfer over 18 holes?
That difference creates a few prices worth separating from the 15 available pairings. The four that stand out are Xander Schauffele +102 over Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa -122 over Sam Burns, Wyndham Clark -108 over Cameron Young and Matt Fitzpatrick +176 over Scottie Scheffler.
East Lake Keeps Remembering Xander
Rory McIlroy deserves his -128 favorite status against Schauffele. His recent numbers are solid, including +0.493 Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee and +0.442 putting over his last five starts, and he arrives after contending at the BMW Championship.
But Schauffele at +102 is where the price gets interesting.
He has finished inside the top five at four consecutive Tour Championships, including second in 2023. His current form is not spectacular, but it isn’t broken either: Schauffele has gained +0.485 strokes off the tee and +0.309 on approach over his last five starts.
This isn’t an argument that Schauffele is playing better golf than McIlroy. It’s an argument that East Lake has repeatedly extracted excellent rounds from him, and Bookmaker Sportsbook is offering plus money for one more.
Selection: Xander Schauffele +102 over Rory McIlroy
Morikawa Has One Number Burns Cannot Match
Sam Burns is playing well. His last five starts show +0.986 Strokes Gained: Approach, +0.465 putting and +1.219 overall. Four of his last ten appearances have produced top-five finishes.
And yet Morikawa at -122 still makes the cut. He leads the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Approach at +0.798 for the season. His recent number remains +0.698, while his putting has actually been positive over the last five starts at +0.320.
Then there is East Lake. Morikawa finished second here in 2024. Burns was T7 last year. Both have evidence on the course, so this doesn’t require pretending Burns wandered into Atlanta carrying rental clubs.
At almost pick’em pricing, I’ll take the player whose iron play has been the best on Tour across the season.
Selection: Collin Morikawa -122 over Sam Burns

Last Week Left A Rather Large Clue
Wyndham Clark has six top-five finishes from his last ten starts. Cameron Young has three top-10s.
Clark’s last five starts have produced +1.252 Strokes Gained: Total. Young’s corresponding number is +0.214, dragged down particularly by -0.690 strokes putting.
And Clark has just won the BMW Championship. He led from the opening round at Bellerive, lost his five-shot cushion on Sunday, then birdied the final three holes to win by three. That is a considerably more interesting piece of form than merely writing W beside his name.
Young’s T4 in his last Tour Championship appearance deserves respect, but Clark at -108 asks almost nothing for the difference in their current golf.
Sometimes the board really does leave the door open.
Selection: Wyndham Clark -108 over Cameron Young

+176 Changes The Scheffler Conversation
Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer in the field. Matt Fitzpatrick doesn’t have to be. He has to beat him on Thursday.
That distinction makes Fitzpatrick +176 the most interesting price on the matchup board.
Scheffler arrives after playing the BMW Championship with hand, foot and mouth disease. He still finished T12 and has since said he is roughly 95% recovered, so this is not a bet based on pretending he remains seriously ill.
The case is Fitzpatrick himself. He ranks second on Tour in Strokes Gained: Total, third on approach, and fourth around the green this season. Even across his last five starts, which include T28 at the BMW and T12 at the St. Jude, he is gaining +1.318 strokes per round overall.
Scheffler probably beats him more often than not. Bookmaker Sportsbook‘s price isn’t asking whether he does. It asks whether he does it often enough to justify Fitzpatrick being +176 over a single round. I don’t think he does.
Selection: Matt Fitzpatrick +176 over Scottie Scheffler
Four Bets, Not Fifteen Opinions
This is where I like the Round 1 format more than trying to manufacture a position on every pairing.
The Golf Betting Hub can cover the broader Tour Championship 2026, while the Golf Betting Guide provides readers with a framework for head-to-head and round-specific betting.
For Thursday, the card is deliberately small:
Xander Schauffele +102 over Rory McIlroy
Collin Morikawa -122 over Sam Burns
Wyndham Clark -108 over Cameron Young
Matt Fitzpatrick +176 over Scottie Scheffler
Morikawa is in the strongest statistical position. Clark is the strongest form position. Schauffele is the course-history play. Fitzpatrick is the price play. That’s enough.
