Farès Ziam’s Reset Meets Axel Sola’s Urgency
Farès Ziam enters UFC Paris with an unusually specific problem to solve. His June loss to Tom Nolan was not a technical collapse so much as an absence of initiative. Ziam admitted this week that he wasn’t mentally engaged during the first two rounds and only began finding himself late. His response has included conversations with training partner Justin Gaethje about maintaining strategic focus regardless of how a fight is unfolding.
Axel Sola is almost designed to test whether that adjustment is real. He fights with more visible urgency, willingly changes phases, and has already said he does not intend to target a decision against Ziam. He also recognizes the complexity in front of him, describing Ziam as long, capable of building gradually, able to generate volume, and comfortable wrestling.
The fascinating bit is that neither man can afford their preferred version of patience for very long.
What Happens Before Farès Ziam Settles?
Farès Ziam’s strongest work usually comes once he establishes distance and starts reading reactions. At 6-foot-1 with a 75-inch reach, he has enough length to make opponents cross uncomfortable space, while his 64% significant-strike defense and 71% takedown defense reflect how difficult he can be to attack cleanly.
But Sola does not need to play an orderly kickboxing match. The southpaw can attack from unconventional entries, create scrambles, and threaten submissions when opponents react hurriedly. His July win over Ismael Bonfim ended with a first-round D’Arce choke, showing his finishing threat isn’t limited to striking exchanges.

Axel Sola Has Already Paid For Chaos
There is danger in assuming aggression automatically favors Sola. Mason Jones survived an early knockdown against him in March, then progressively did the cleaner work during a violent 15-minute fight and won unanimously.
That fight matters here because Farès Ziam is considerably more economical defensively than an opponent who simply agrees to exchange.
Axel Sola seems aware of the distinction. He told L’Équipe that he would prefer to stay ahead and manage the fight rather than activate what he called his “warrior mode” while trailing. More importantly, his camp deliberately reduced his workload after overtraining contributed to illness around the Bonfim fight. He says that mistake has not been repeated for Ziam.

Betting Analysis
Bookmaker Sportsbook opened Ziam at -149 and Sola at +129, with Over 2.5 rounds priced at -195 and Under 2.5 at +166.
The favorite price makes sense because Ziam owns more established UFC experience and has generally been difficult to hit cleanly. The heavy Over price warrants more scrutiny. Sola has finishes in four of his last five victories, while Ziam’s renewed emphasis on initiative specifically targets the passivity that cost him against Nolan.
Neither man is preparing to spend Saturday politely exchanging receipts.
Betting Lean
Fares Ziam -149.
Sola’s pressure and transitional offense create genuine danger, particularly if Ziam again spends the first round observing instead of imposing. Yet Ziam’s length, defensive discipline, wrestling competence and deeper UFC résumé give him more ways to control where the fight takes place. The technical pick is Ziam by decision, with Sola’s ability to create sudden scrambles the clearest threat to that outcome.
