Eight Straight Wins Meet Scherzer

Kansas City is +108 at Bookmaker Sportsbook, Toronto -122, with the total at 8.5. The pick is Royals moneyline +108.

This is Game 1 of a three-game series at Rogers Center. Kansas City arrives at 58-74 after an 11-7 win over Detroit, completing a perfect 7-0 homestand and extending its winning streak to eight. Toronto is 64-68 after taking three of six on a road trip through Tampa Bay and New York. Seth Lugo faces Max Scherzer.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro did not dress the streak up as a resurrection. “There’s 30 games left,” he said Sunday. “It is ‘try to win the next game.’”

Kansas City spent eight games making its season interesting again. Scherzer gets the first crack at making it boring.

How Much Patience Does Toronto Have?

John Schneider identified Toronto’s problem before this series without needing to mention Kansas City.

The Blue Jays entered Monday hitting .239 with runners in scoring position, while their .682 team OPS ranked last in MLB. Schneider’s instruction was equally plain: “You’ve got to zone into a spot where you can drive the ball a bit more consistently.”

Lugo gives that advice somewhere to live. He has allowed ten earned runs across his last two starts, including five runs and nine hits in six innings against the Athletics. He did not walk a batter in either outing.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. returned from the concussion-injured list Saturday, restoring Toronto’s most important middle-of-the-order bat. He returns to Rogers Center having hit all seven of his 2026 home runs on the road.

Max Scherzer delivers a fastball to Salvador Perez during a previous professional MLB game at Rogers Center.

What Does Scherzer Have Left Tuesday?

Scherzer’s last start ended after four innings in Tampa Bay. Seven runs scored. He struck out one. His ERA climbed to 7.40.

Kansas City brings a lineup that has scored 50 runs during its eight-game winning streak. Nick Loftin drove in four Sunday, John Rave homered, and the Royals have repeatedly recovered after opponents score rather than waiting for a perfect pitching night.

The MLB Betting Hub becomes useful when the standings and the immediate baseball are pointing in different directions. Kansas City remains 7.5 games from the final AL Wild Card, while Toronto is part of the same crowded chase. The MLB Playoffs Betting Guide provides the wider frame for a series where neither club has many games left to waste.

Royals vs Blue Jays Betting Lean

Kansas City Royals +108.

Scherzer’s recent volatility is difficult to lay -122 behind against a lineup producing this much offense. Lugo carries his own risk, but Kansas City does not need the cleaner starting-pitching line to justify plus money.
