DWCS Week Five Has No Patience

Dana White’s Contender Series rarely rewards hesitation, but Tuesday’s five-fight card takes that principle rather literally.

Quentin Pasley has never left the first round. Neither has Arlind Berisha. Christian Echols has eight wins and four losses, and every one has ended by stoppage. Colton Loud has finished all seven of his victories. Even the more measured fighters on the card are being matched against opponents capable of making patience disappear very quickly.

The most interesting question across the DWCS card, then, is not who has the biggest weapon. It is which prospects can still make good decisions after their preferred first attack fails.

Pasley And Berisha Have Never Waited

Pasley is 3-0 with three first-round knockouts.

Berisha is 6-0, has finished every professional opponent in Round 1, and stands 6-foot-6. His finishing record includes both strikes and submissions, so simply rushing inside his reach does not automatically solve the problem.

Pasley’s opportunity comes if he can make that long frame uncomfortable in the pocket. Berisha’s advantage is that he can punish the entry before Pasley gets there.

Prediction: Arlind Berisha by first-round TKO.

Bookmaker Sportsbook opening line lists Berisha at -159 and Pasley at +126.

Isaac Moreno attacks from long range during a previous DWCS professional welterweight fight.

Moreno Cannot Admire His Own Range

Isaac Moreno’s karate and kickboxing background has helped produce an 8-0 professional record with five knockouts. He is most effective when opponents give him enough space to read their approach.

Reginaldo Junior should try to take that information away.

Junior brings an 11-1 record, credible striking and a stronger grappling route. His pre-fight comments have emphasized surprising Moreno on the feet, which matters because clean striking entries can make the eventual level change considerably harder to read.

If Moreno keeps the center wide, his timing can frustrate Junior. If Junior gets him backing toward the fence, the matchup changes.

Prediction: Reginaldo Junior by second-round submission.

Christian Echols attacks a front headlock during a previous DWCS professional middleweight fight.

Four Extra Pounds Complicate Echols

Christian Echols accepted Martin Kozak on short notice and then weighed 189 pounds for their middleweight fight. Kozak made 185.

Echols remains dangerous. Six of his eight victories have come by submission, and he has previously produced an upset after accepting a difficult assignment without a full camp.

But Kozak is 6-0 with six finishes and has already shown he can remain dangerous into the third round. That matters against an opponent whose career has overwhelmingly been decided early.

The longer Kozak keeps the first five minutes orderly, the more Echols’ short preparation becomes part of the fight.

Prediction: Martin Kozak by second-round TKO.

Apollo Gomes changes levels for a takedown during a previous DWCS professional bantamweight fight.

Kwon Gets No Easy Second Audition

Won Il Kwon returns to DWCS after being stopped on the show last season.

His threat remains obvious: 12 of his 14 professional wins have come by knockout or TKO.

Apollo Gomes, however, brings more ways to change the fight. His 12-2 record includes five knockouts, four submissions and three decisions. He can strike with Kwon without being forced to spend all 15 minutes proving he is the better pure puncher.

Kwon owns the sharper single weapon. Gomes can keep changing the question.

Prediction: Apollo Gomes by unanimous decision.

Christian Natividad advances behind a compact guard during a previous DWCS professional flyweight fight.

Loud Has Never Needed Minute Eight

Colton Loud is 7-1 with seven finishes, six in the opening round.

Christian Natividad is 9-0, but six of those victories have required the judges.

That makes Natividad’s experience beyond the initial firefight unusually important. Loud owns a five-inch height advantage and can make entries dangerous, but Natividad has considerably more evidence of maintaining structure when an opponent refuses to disappear.

If Loud does not secure the early finish, the matchup starts moving toward territory Natividad understands better.

Prediction: Christian Natividad by unanimous decision.

DWCS Betting Analysis

Bookmaker Sportsbook opening line prices Berisha -159, Pasley +126; Moreno -129, Junior +101; Kozak -499, Echols +351; Kwon -131, Gomes +103; Natividad -295, Loud +225.

The two large favorites are difficult to justify as straight bets. Kozak should win, but -499 charges heavily for Echols’ volatility. Natividad is technically preferable, but Loud’s early finishing ability makes -295 similarly unattractive.

The cleaner value sits with two fighters whose tactical options appear wider than their prices suggest.
