Cody Bradford Inherits Texas’ Missing Innings
Texas enters Seattle with Cody Bradford scheduled to start and two established rotation arms still on the injured list. That makes Tuesday’s unresolved question unusually simple: how many outs can Bradford give Bruce Bochy before the Rangers’ bullpen becomes the game?
Nathan Eovaldi remains sidelined with posterior elbow inflammation, while Jack Leiter is on the 60-day IL. Bradford has consequently become part of a September rotation that cannot treat five innings as an automatic handoff to a fully intact relief corps.
There is one timely reinforcement. Left-hander Robert Garcia was activated Monday after missing almost five months with a shoulder injury, giving Texas another bullpen option precisely when its rotation depth is being tested.
Bookmaker Sportsbook‘s opening line has Seattle -133 and Texas +117, with Over 8 at -106 and Under 8 at -106. Texas is +1.5 at -184.
The pick is Texas Rangers +117.
Garcia Returned at the Right Time
Garcia’s activation changes the risk attached to Cody Bradford without eliminating it. The left-hander made only one rehabilitation appearance before returning, striking out two hitters in a 16-pitch outing for Triple-A Round Rock. Texas therefore gains an experienced left-handed option, but not one whose immediate workload should be assumed after such a long absence.
Cody Bradford does not need to impersonate an injured Eovaldi. He needs to keep Texas from asking Bochy to manufacture too many middle innings. The Rangers’ relief group has been weakened further by Cole Winn’s rotator cuff strain and Peyton Gray’s elbow inflammation, both of which sent them to the injured list in late August.

Seattle Lost Its Best Escape Route
Seattle has its own late-inning subtraction. Matt Brash has been shut down for the remainder of the season after persistent right lat inflammation. General manager Justin Hollander said Brash continued to experience discomfort during his attempted return, ending a season in which he posted a 0.54 ERA across 16⅔ innings.
That matters to the Texas moneyline more than a generic bullpen comparison. If Cody Bradford keeps the Rangers within a run through the middle innings, Seattle no longer possesses Brash as one of its cleanest ways to remove a dangerous late matchup. The Mariners still have other relief options, but one exceptionally difficult route through the final nine outs has disappeared.
Seattle’s starter had not yet been officially announced on its lineup page Tuesday morning, which is another reason not to manufacture a starting-pitching comparison that does not yet exist. The official Mariners listing still showed the starter as TBD.

Five Innings Change the Price
Texas at +117 becomes attractive because the market is asking Bradford for competence, not dominance.
The Rangers enter at 71-73 against Seattle’s 67-77, and both clubs have allowed 4.44 runs per game this season. Texas’ larger problem has been preventing games from spilling too early into a bullpen carrying multiple injuries.
Garcia’s return slightly widens Bochy’s bridge. Brash’s shutdown slightly narrows Seattle’s.
That makes Bradford’s fifth inning the hinge. If he reaches or clears it with Texas attached to the game, +117 leaves enough price for the Rangers’ offense and newly reinforced bullpen to matter. If Seattle forces Bochy into relief work in the fourth, the entire argument deteriorates quickly.
Betting lean: Texas Rangers +117. Cody Bradford’s workload is the primary risk, especially with Texas still missing Eovaldi and Leiter. But Garcia’s return arrives at a useful moment, while Seattle has permanently lost Brash from its late-inning structure.
