Chris Sale Stands Between Dodgers and Escape

Betting Lean: Atlanta Braves -108

Atlanta has already won the series. Thursday can make the damage more useful.

Chris Sale starts against Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Bookmaker Sportsbook priced the Braves at -108, Los Angeles -104 and the Under 7 at -120. Sale enters with a 2.20 ERA, third-best in the majors, while Yamamoto carries a 2.61 mark.

The pitching is close enough that the better price rests on what surrounds it. Atlanta gets Sale at home against a Dodgers club that needed five relievers Wednesday after Roki Sasaki left in the fourth inning with a blister.

Roberts Already Named Thursday’s Problem

Los Angeles did plenty right Wednesday. It scored five runs, came back from two deficits and loaded the bases in the eighth. It still lost because Ha-Seong Kim drove Tanner Scott’s full-count fastball into left field with two outs in the ninth.

Roberts’ postgame concern was more revealing than the walk-off itself.

“You’re staring down Chris Sale tomorrow to salvage a series.”

Sale has a 1.97 ERA over his past 20 starts. He does not need Atlanta to reproduce Wednesday’s late drama if he keeps the Dodgers from building the traffic Roberts complained they failed to convert.

The MLB Betting Hub angle is therefore less about Atlanta’s two wins than the pitcher waiting in Game 3.

Five Relievers Changed the Morning After

Sasaki’s blister forced Los Angeles to cover 5⅓ innings with Edgardo Henriquez, Eric Lauer, Evan Phillips, Brock Stewart and Scott. Sasaki is headed to the injured list.

Atlanta also used its bullpen, but AJ Smith-Shawver supplied five innings before Dylan Lee, Didier Fuentes and Victor Mederos finished the game. Mederos threw a clean ninth.

That allows Sale to reduce bullpen exposure rather than inherit it.

The MLB Playoffs Betting Guide matters here because this is no ordinary sweep opportunity. Atlanta has already secured the season-series tiebreaker and sits only two games behind Los Angeles for a postseason bye.

Seven Runs Leave Little Margin

Yamamoto is good enough to make the Under 7 attractive.

Sale is the reason Atlanta -108 is preferable.

The Braves do not need another walk-off. They need Sale to keep the Dodgers’ top-heavy lineup from turning baserunners into a crooked inning.

Prediction: Braves 3-2 Dodgers
