Charleston Battery’s Fortress Has A Jürgen Locadia Problem
Charleston Battery have gone 23 consecutive USL Championship home matches without losing. Miami FC arrive at Patriots Point without a league win since July 22. That sounds straightforward until Jürgen Locadia enters the picture.
The Curaçao international has scored five times in his last eight appearances since returning from the World Cup and remains Miami’s leading scorer. He found the net again against Hartford last weekend, forcing two saves before eventually finishing Mason Tunbridge’s pass in first-half stoppage time.
Charleston, meanwhile, lead the USL Championship with 39 goals and have collected a league-best 23 home points from a 7-0-2 record. Their only August defeat came away at Pittsburgh, where they conceded twice inside 16 minutes and eventually lost 3-1.
Bookmaker Sportsbook makes Charleston -215 favorites, with Miami at +500 and the draw +370. The total is three goals. Twenty-three home games unbeaten. Miami only needs one broken press.
What Happens If Jürgen Locadia Gets One Turn?
Miami’s recent results have been poor. Their attacking play has been more interesting. Jürgen Locadia has scored against Indy Eleven, Tampa Bay, Detroit City and Hartford since mid-July, repeatedly arriving in the penalty area rather than waiting for the game to find him. Against Las Vegas, even without scoring, he produced several of Miami’s better openings and continually made himself available between center-back and full-back.
Ben Pirmann’s side are comfortable controlling territory, winning possession in midfield and sustaining attacks around the box. Against most opponents, that pressure becomes suffocating.
Miami is awkward because transition is already one of their strongest weapons. They are tied for the league lead with six counter-attacking goals and have created 35 fast-counter opportunities. Locadia gives those breaks somewhere to finish.

Locadia Only Needs Charleston Battery To Lose One Race
Charleston Battery’s 2025 win over Miami came with complete territorial dominance. That does not mean Monday should be approached the same way.
Miami’s current front line carries more transition threat, while Charleston’s defeat at Pittsburgh offered a reminder of what happens when the first defensive action arrives late. Pittsburgh went 2-0 ahead before the match had properly settled.
The important space will be behind Charleston’s advancing midfield. If Emilio Ycaza and the full-backs push high, the nearest defender has to deal with Miami’s first forward pass before Locadia can receive facing goal.
Let him turn, and Charleston’s numerical superiority elsewhere becomes irrelevant. That is where the favorite can make this much harder than the price implies.

Who Gets Martínez’s Side Of The Field?
Charleston will be without Douglas Martínez, suspended after his second yellow card against Pittsburgh.
That removes more than one body. Martínez supplied the winning assist for Langston Blackstock at Loudoun, then scored Charleston’s only goal against Pittsburgh a week later. He has recently given the Battery direct running and useful service from wide areas.
His absence changes the combinations around Miami’s defensive block. Charleston still has Maalique Foster, Colton Swan, Miguel Berry and Laurent Kissiedou. Still, Miami can defend differently if one of the players most willing to drive directly toward the box is missing.
Swan’s return from international duty helps. The striker remains Charleston’s leading scorer and now gets his first home appearance since July 18. Miami cannot simply sink into a narrow shell and assume the danger will remain outside it.
Room May Need More Than Fifteen Saves
Charleston’s 39 league goals meet a goalkeeper who spent part of the summer dealing with something even less forgiving.
Eloy Room made 15 saves against Ecuador at the World Cup, a record for a 90-minute World Cup match, as Curaçao earned their first point at the tournament. He has since returned to Miami and already saved a stoppage-time penalty against Detroit City.
Patriots Point has rewarded their early pressure all season, and the Battery have scored more first-half goals than any other USL Championship side.
Room gives Miami a chance to survive the phase when the home crowd, fresh legs and Charleston’s pressing usually pile onto one another.

Can Miami Stay Patient Long Enough?
Miami’s last league win came on July 22. Since then, they have drawn Detroit, lost to Las Vegas, and then lost 2-1 at Hartford despite creating enough chances to threaten a different result.
The danger is letting the standings dictate the tempo. Miami are ninth in the East on 22 points. Charleston sit second with 33. The visitors need wins, but chasing one too aggressively at Patriots Point would play directly into Charleston’s strengths.
Miami’s best route may require accepting long spells without the ball, keeping the central block connected and trusting that Locadia, Gerald Díaz or Mason Tunbridge will eventually get a transition.
That is not glamorous. Neither is being the first visiting team to win at Patriots Point this season.
The Soccer Betting Hub becomes useful here because the headline numbers pull in opposite directions: Charleston’s home dominance against Miami’s transition efficiency. The Soccer Betting Guide helps frame the distinction between possession that creates pressure and possession that creates vulnerability.
Betting Analysis
Charleston deserves to be the favorite. They are unbeaten at home, lead the league in goals, and face a Miami side that has gone more than a month without a league victory. The -215 price is less attractive.
Miami’s counter-attacking profile is specifically suited to attacking one of Charleston’s few structural risks, while Locadia is producing enough individual threat to punish a single mistake.
The total may offer the cleaner route. Over three is -115, while Under three is -110.
Charleston has scored 27 home goals, but Miami’s likely approach should be more restrained than adventurous. The visitors know what open football at Patriots Point looked like last season.
Betting Lean
The lean is Under 3 goals (-110).
Charleston should own the territory. Miami should spend more of the night protecting space and waiting for Locadia.
If Room handles the early pressure, this may take considerably longer to open than Charleston’s attacking numbers suggest.
