Castaneda Brings Firepower, Alatengheili Brings Sandpaper
John Castaneda is the better offensive fighter. Bookmaker Sportsbook’s opening line would like you to convert that sentence directly into -327. I wouldn’t.
Castaneda lands 4.95 significant strikes per minute and has 14 finishes among 21 victories. Alatengheili lands only 2.82. The inconvenient number is on the other side of the ledger: Castaneda absorbs 5.07 significant strikes per minute, while Alatengheili absorbs 5.12.
One man creates substantially more offense. Neither exactly owns an invisibility cloak.
Bookmaker Sportsbook‘s opening line: Castaneda -327, Alatengheili +265; Over 2.5 (-310), Under 2.5 (+252). Pick: Over 2.5 (-310).
Alatengheili Has Become Thoroughly Inconvenient
Alatengheili’s UFC numbers are not glamorous. His fights increasingly aren’t either. His average UFC fight lasts 13:25, his takedown defense sits at 75%, and nine of his 17 professional victories have come by decision. His UFC record includes only one finish, the 47-second knockout of Kevin Croom in 2022.
That profile explains why the Over costs a ridiculous -310. It also explains why I prefer it to Castaneda’s moneyline.

Castaneda Owns More Ways To Win
Castaneda can box, wrestle and hunt submissions. His 21 victories include eight knockouts and six submissions, while his 76% takedown defense makes simply dragging him into a wrestling match an unreliable shortcut.
He also has a five-inch reach advantage, 71 inches to 66.5 inches. So yes, Castaneda deserves favoritism. Minus 327 deserves considerably more interrogation.

Fifteen Minutes Costs An Absurd Price
Castaneda’s April fight with Mark Vologdin went the full distance and ended in a majority draw. Alatengheili has reached the scorecards in each of his last three UFC appearances.
Bookmaker Sportsbook is therefore charging -310 for the least imaginative conclusion available. Annoyingly, I agree with it.
Prediction: John Castaneda by unanimous decision.
Betting lean: Over 2.5 rounds (-310).
Sometimes the boring bet is boring because everybody can see it. That does not make Alatengheili disappear in Round 2.
