Bennett Gets The Yankees Twice
Boston does not need Jake Bennett to recreate June. It needs him to make New York solve the same problem again.
The Red Sox enter Saturday’s 1:05 p.m. ET doubleheader opener at Yankee Stadium as +104 underdogs at Bookmaker Sportsbook, with New York -117 and the total at eight runs. The betting lean is Boston +1.5 (-199), while the straight pick is Red Sox +104.
Bennett starts against Carlos Rodón. Boston is 73-61 after Friday’s 1-0 loss; New York is 76-58 and holds the American League’s top Wild Card position.
How Much Of June Still Works?
Bennett faced these Yankees on June 27 and allowed three hits and one run across 6⅓ innings. That matters less as history than as evidence.
The rookie left-hander does not overpower lineups with one cartoonish weapon. He changes eye levels, limits hard contact and forces hitters to create their own velocity. Against New York in June, that approach denied a lineup built to damage mistakes the mistakes it wanted.
The lineup awaiting him Saturday is different and thinner. Aaron Judge remains sidelined with a rib stress fracture, Giancarlo Stanton is also unavailable, while Cody Bellinger has only recently returned. Ben Rice has supplied much of the replacement power, reaching 35 homers.
Aaron Boone said Thursday that Boston “pitch[es] really well every day” and called the Red Sox one of baseball’s best current teams. His lineup now gets another left-hander immediately after Patrick Sandoval held New York to one run Friday.
Rodón Has Seventy-Something Pitches To Spend
Rodón carries the bigger name, but workload changes the matchup. He returned from left elbow inflammation on August 19 and threw four innings in each of his first two starts back. His most recent outing against Toronto again lasted four innings. New York has been careful about extending him, and reporting before Saturday indicated another restricted workload in the doubleheader.
That puts unusual value on Boston forcing longer plate appearances early.
The Red Sox offense was shut out Friday despite drawing five walks from Cam Schlittler. Rodón’s challenge is different: Boston’s lineup can make his limited pitch inventory disappear quickly without scoring immediately.
That becomes important because New York also needs its bullpen for Game 2, when Max Fried returns from the injured list on his own restricted workload.
The MLB Betting Hub offers the wider Saturday slate, while the MLB Playoffs Betting Guide becomes increasingly relevant with Boston and New York now separated by three games in the Wild Card race.

One Run Could Change The Bullpen
Friday consumed Brent Headrick, Paul Blackburn and closer David Bednar for New York. Boston used its bullpen behind Sandoval as well.
In an ordinary game, that is bookkeeping. In the first half of a day-night doubleheader, it can become leverage.
Bennett has completed at least six innings in several recent starts and threw seven against San Francisco last Sunday. Another efficient outing would let Boston protect more of its relief depth for the night game.
Betting Analysis
Bookmaker Sportsbook lists Boston +104, New York -117 and the total at eight.
Rodón’s workload limitation makes -117 difficult to love, particularly against a starter who has already handled this lineup.
Betting Lean
Boston +1.5 (-199) is the conservative lean.
For greater upside, Boston +104 is playable.
Prediction: Red Sox 4, Yankees 3.
