Belgaroui Makes Santos Fight His Geometry
Djorden Santos accepted a difficult replacement assignment. Yousri Belgaroui presents it from six feet six inches away.
Belgaroui enters Saturday on a five-fight winning streak with eight knockouts in 10 professional victories. Santos brings the more varied finishing record, with three knockouts and four submissions among 11 wins, but his UFC career has so far produced one victory in three appearances.
The matchup is less about whether Santos can fight at Belgaroui’s pace than whether he can reach useful positions before the Dutch striker makes distance expensive.
Santos Inherited A Very Different Fight
Belgaroui originally prepared for Kelvin Gastelum before Santos stepped in as the replacement. That changed the opponent from a compact veteran boxer-wrestler to a younger, taller athlete with more submission history and a 75.5-inch reach. Belgaroui still owns roughly a three-inch reach advantage and considerably more experience operating at elite kickboxing range.
Santos has spent 94 percent of his recorded UFC fight time striking at distance, landing 6.64 significant strikes per minute while absorbing 6.35. That unusually high exchange rate becomes more dangerous here because Belgaroui has historically needed far fewer clean opportunities in return. Santos has been comfortable making distance busy; Belgaroui has been much better at making the same distance punishing.

Belgaroui Keeps Finding The Third Round
Belgaroui stopped both Azamat Bekoev and Mansur Abdul-Malik in Round 3. That is more revealing than another highlight-reel first-round knockout would have been. He has shown that his mechanics and power remain dangerous after opponents have had ten minutes to study them.
His UFC numbers reinforce the picture: 6.10 significant strikes landed per minute, only 2.17 absorbed, 64 percent striking defense and an average fight time above 13 minutes.
Asked this week about Santos, Belgaroui called him “a dog,” praising his toughness while saying he believes he is technically superior everywhere. More importantly, he said fight IQ and positional experience are the key to keeping Santos from turning the bout into an ugly war.
Santos Has One Uncomfortable Escape Route
Santos’ four career submissions suggest a dimension Belgaroui does not possess on paper, but his UFC fights have rarely been built around it. He averages only 0.51 takedowns per 15 minutes, while his last appearance ended with Baisangur Susurkaev submitting him by rear-naked choke late in Round 3.
That leaves an awkward contradiction beneath the matchup. Santos has the more varied finishing record, yet UFC evidence has increasingly put him in extended striking exchanges. Against Belgaroui, that happens to be the part of the fight where the favorite’s résumé becomes most persuasive.

Minus 785 Leaves Almost Nothing Hidden
Bookmaker Sportsbook‘s opening line makes Belgaroui -785 and Santos +554, with Over 1.5 rounds -220 and Under 1.5 +184.
Belgaroui is the technical pick. His length, defensive striking numbers, late-round finishing history and kickboxing pedigree all attack areas Santos has yet to prove he can consistently neutralize.
Fight prediction: Yousri Belgaroui by third-round TKO.
Santos’ durability can carry him through the early rounds, but Belgaroui’s ability to punish entries without overcommitting should steadily narrow the Brazilian’s options.
Betting lean: Over 1.5 rounds (-220). Belgaroui at -785 demands near perfection from the favorite. The total better reflects Santos’ durability and Belgaroui’s recent habit of finishing after Round 2.
