Anthony Kay Has A Handedness Problem
Pick: Houston Astros -125
Secondary lean: Over 8.5 (+100)
Houston returns to Daikin Park with a two-game AL West lead and Peter Lambert facing Anthony Kay in Monday’s series opener. Chicago remains atop the AL Central, 3½ games clear of Cleveland. The Astros are -125 at Bookmaker Sportsbook, and the matchup underneath that price is unusually specific: Houston can build a right-handed lineup directly into Kay’s largest weakness.
Houston Can Keep Turning Anthony Kay Around
Left-handed hitters have managed a .526 OPS against Kay this season. Right-handers are at .852, hitting .283/.374/.478 with 16 home runs. His strikeout rate also falls sharply against righties.
Houston can put Jeremy Peña, Jose Altuve, Isaac Paredes and Yainer Díaz into that side of the matchup while keeping Yordan Alvarez in the middle.
Alvarez is hardly a platoon sacrifice. He enters Monday leading the majors with a 1.048 OPS and the American League with a .320 average, 37 home runs and 93 RBIs. His August has produced a .919 OPS despite opponents increasingly pitching around him.
Anthony Kay’s sweeper has generated a 36.4% whiff rate, the best mark among his regular pitches. The problem arrives when Houston’s right-handers force him back toward the four-seamer, sinker, and cutter. Kay doesn’t face one bad matchup Monday. He faces a batting order full of them.
What Happens When Alvarez Interrupts The Pattern?
Lambert’s season has produced a strange mirror image. Left-handed hitters are batting only .179 with a .262 slugging percentage against him. Right-handers have hit .270 and slugged .425.
That places Chicago’s Tristan Peters and Andrew Benintendi on the less productive side of Lambert’s split. Peters recently homered in five consecutive games, while Benintendi has remained one of Chicago’s more dependable offensive pieces.
Lambert is also coming off 5⅔ innings against the Yankees in which he allowed two earned runs and struck out five. Houston has been monitoring his workload, but Joe Espada said earlier this month that Lambert’s velocity remained steady and that he was recovering well between starts.

Sunday Left The Astros Three Arms Lighter
The Astros are beginning a stretch of 13 consecutive games, and their rotation instability has already pushed the bullpen hard. Espada has discussed selectively using openers behind the rotation’s weaker links; Lambert remains one of only three Houston starters consistently providing length.
Josh Hader, Bryan Abreu and Steven Okert all pitched Sunday in New York. Hader recorded his 21st save, while Abreu and Okert worked ahead of him.
That adds another layer to the MLB Betting Hub angle. Houston has the stronger starting-pitcher matchup, but Lambert’s innings matter more than usual. Chicago’s best path to an upset begins once Houston has to start using relievers.
The MLB Playoffs Betting Guide context is already unavoidable: both clubs enter September leading their divisions.
Can Lambert Keep The Door Closed Long Enough?
Kay has a 3.49 ERA across five August starts, but Texas reached him for four runs in 4⅔ innings Tuesday. Lambert owns a 3.66 season ERA, although his last seven starts have produced a 5.25 mark.
Houston’s lineup construction against Kay is enough to take -125. The bullpen usage keeps the total alive.
Betting Lean: Houston Astros -125
Secondary Lean: Over 8.5 (+100)
Prediction: Astros 5, White Sox 4
