Anthony Hernandez vs Gregory Rodrigues: One Man Wants Five Rounds. The Other Wants Five Minutes.
Anthony Hernandez spent years making middleweights miserable by turning fights into labor.
Gregory Rodrigues has spent the last twelve months reminding them that labor can occasionally be interrupted by unconsciousness.
Hernandez returns after Sean Strickland stopped him in the third round in February, ending a seven-fight winning streak that had included Brendan Allen, Roman Dolidze, Michel Pereira and Roman Kopylov. Rodrigues arrives moving the opposite direction: three consecutive victories, including first-round knockouts of Jack Hermansson and Brunno Ferreira.
Hernandez has attempted 112 UFC takedowns. Rodrigues would rather make him regret attempting the 113th in Anthony Hernandez vs Gregory Rodrigues.
How Long Can Rodrigues Keep Hernandez At Arm’s Length?
Hernandez’s UFC Stats credits him with 5.88 takedowns per 15 minutes, 4.57 significant strikes landed per minute, and 1.6 submission attempts. Those numbers describe the mechanism better than any label like “grappler.” He does not simply shoot, settle, and wait. He chains attempts together, returns to the body lock, forces opponents to stand, then makes them defend again.
Against Michel Pereira, he landed 10 takedowns and 152 significant strikes before finishing with elbows in Round 5. Against Roman Dolidze, he landed nine takedowns before submitting him in the fourth.
Rodrigues is at his most dangerous when he can set his stance and punch through the target. Hernandez’s repeated entries threaten to deny him those clean resets.

One Clean Rodrigues Counter Can Rewrite The Fight
Calling Rodrigues a power striker undersells him. He is a BJJ black belt and former IBJJF world champion, with three professional submission wins and respectable offensive wrestling. UFC Stats lists him at 1.90 takedowns per 15 minutes with 75% takedown defense.
His hands are what change opponents’ behavior. Rodrigues lands 5.53 significant strikes per minute and averages just over one knockdown per 15 minutes. Twelve of his 19 victories have come by knockout or TKO.
Against Ferreira, one right hand ended the fight in 1:47. Against Hermansson, the finish came at 4:21 of Round 1. Every Hernandez entry brings him through Rodrigues’ uppercut and right-hand range.
Strickland Left Hernandez With A Problem To Solve
The February loss matters because Strickland did something that most recent Hernandez opponents could not. He kept the fight standing.
Hernandez finished with no takedowns and was outlanded 110-55 in significant strikes before being stopped at 2:23 of the third round.
Rodrigues is not Strickland. He does not have the same defensive shell, jab discipline, or ability to deny space minute after minute. But he does have more immediate finishing danger.
If Hernandez starts forcing entries from too far away because the first layer of pressure fails, Rodrigues can punish the level change with uppercuts, hooks and knees.

Can Gregory Rodrigues Survive The Tax?
The harder question for Rodrigues is what happens if Hernandez gets through the first two rounds without absorbing major damage.
Rodrigues absorbs 4.78 significant strikes per minute. Hernandez thrives when opponents begin defending one phase half a second late.
Repeated takedown attempts do not need to succeed to cost Rodrigues. By the third or fourth, the underhook can become slower, the stance higher, and the fence starts doing half of Hernandez’s work for him.
Rodrigues Cannot Afford To Chase The Finish
Rodrigues has become noticeably more patient across his recent run. The Kopylov decision was particularly useful because he showed he could fight for fifteen minutes without chasing a finish that was not there. Then he returned against Ferreira and took the finish immediately when it appeared.
Hernandez needs similar discipline. He should pressure without forcing naked shots, make Rodrigues defend the clinch, attack the body, and let the workload become the weapon.
The MMA/UFC Betting Hub and UFC Betting Guide are useful here because both men have obvious headline strengths, but the fight is more likely to be decided by how those strengths are introduced than by which one sounds scarier on paper.

Anthony Hernandez vs Gregory Rodrigues Fight Prediction
Rodrigues is most dangerous early. Hernandez has been stopped twice by strikes, including the recent loss to Strickland, and Rodrigues carries considerably more one-shot power than most opponents Hernandez has faced. But stylistically, Hernandez has the clearer repeatable route.
Rodrigues can defend takedowns well, but Hernandez doesn’t need every attempt to succeed. He needs them to keep arriving.
If the favorite gets beyond the first dangerous exchanges, the clinch work, chained takedowns and body pressure should gradually take away Rodrigues’ ability to plant and fire.
The technical prediction is Anthony Hernandez by fourth-round submission.
Betting Analysis
Bookmaker Sportsbook prices Hernandez at -190 and Rodrigues at +153.
The favorite price is reasonable but not generous. Rodrigues’ knockout power creates enough early danger that laying close to 2-1 requires faith that Hernandez survives the first major exchanges.
The total is more interesting. Under 3.5 rounds is -205, which reflects Rodrigues’ finishing profile and Hernandez’s own ability to break opponents once fatigue accumulates.
Betting Lean
The lean is Under 3.5 rounds (-205).
Rodrigues has nine first-round finishes and 12 knockouts overall. Hernandez has finished nine opponents by submission and has produced late stoppages when his pace finally overwhelms resistance.
