2011 Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes – Potential Entries:
Drill – Won the Del Mar Futurity and finished 2nd in the Norfolk Stakes before coming up empty in a 10th place run in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. He has bested top horses like Creative Cause and Majestic City previously.
Jake Mo – Sired by 2005 Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo, Jake Mo is fresh off a 5th place run in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint. Before that race, he had finished no worse than 3rd through 4 career races.
Longview Drive – Started off his career with a 2nd place run in a maiden-breaking effort at Golden Gate before reeling off 3 straight victories. Most recently won the Charlie Palmer Futurity at Fresno.
Sabercat – Took 4 tries to break his maiden but he’s one of the few potential entries in the Delta Downs Jackpot that has won at a mile or longer. He’s fresh off a Garden State victory at 1 mile and 70 yards.
My Adonis – Grabbed 3 straight 2nd place finishes trying to break his maiden before finally getting the win in his 4th try. My Adonis went on to win the Jean Lafitte at Delta Downs, besting another likely Jackpot horse in Tiz Moe in the process.
Basmati – One of the more experienced horses likely to be in the 2011 Delta Downs Jackpot field, Basmati is fresh off his first career win. Previously he had finished 5th in a talented Del Mar Futurity field and 4th in a strong Norfolk race.
Seven Lively Sins – Broke his maiden at Keeneland before coming up 2nd in the Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs most recently. That last race was Seven Lively Sins’ first time at a mile, so there is room for improvement.
Laurie’s Rocket – Looked good breaking his maiden at Saratoga before stalling a bit in recent races. Laurie’s Rocket finished 4th in the Hopeful Stakes before coming up 8th in the Champagne Stakes in his first try at a mile.
Tiz Moe – Sired by 2000 and 2001 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Tiznow, Tiz Moe has one career race and it was a 2nd place run in the 2011 Jean Lafitte. The race was at a mile, and I don’t see this horse having issues with the distance in the Jackpot.
Doug’s Buddy – Not a lot is known about this dark horse in the 2011 Delta Downs Jackpot field other than the fact that he is sired by Badge of Silver, the 3rd place finisher in the 2006 Breeders’ Cup Mile.
