The NFL preseason is a great time for those who love betting on sports. It's a chance to make some extra cash before the regular season starts.

The NFL preseason starts on Thursday, August 11 with a pair of games. There are five contests on Friday, 8 contests on Saturday, and 1 contest on Sunday. BookMaker.eu will have spreads and point totals for every NFL game on the schedule this season.

There are three types of bets that you can make during the preseason:

1) Straight-up bets on the outcome of individual games 2) Parlay bets where if you correctly pick one or more games, you can win big money, and 3) Prop bets where you bet on things like which team will score first, what player will score the most points in a game, etc.

Week 1 is always an interesting week because it's difficult to predict which teams will be playing their starters and which ones will be resting them. That being said, let’s take a look at Week 1's betting odds and picks.

Before we take a look at the odds for Week 1, here’s a tip when betting on preseason games: Throw out everything you know about wagering on the NFL regular season and consider these games to be almost entirely unpredictable. Coaches this preseason are looking to experiment with their lineups and explore the potential of new players. In fact, many of the players in these games will be mystery men- meaning that coaches won't really know what they can do until they've seen them play. In other words, we should be focusing on other things besides winning the game. That's why sometimes they seem to copy successful lines from the previous day.

Typical for the preseason, most of the Week 1 games have an opening line between 1.5-4 points with totals for every game in the low to mid-30s. In addition to three favorites, there are two games listed as a pick ‘em. Baltimore and Las Vegas are being given the highest favorite odds for their Week 1 games, at 3.5 points on the betting board.

Tennessee Titans at Baltimore Ravens ( -3.5, 31.5 )

Friday, August 12

Cleveland Browns at Jacksonville Jaguars ( -1.5, 33 )

Arizona Cardinals at Cincinnati Bengals ( -1.5, 33.5 )

New York Jets at Philadelphia Eagles ( PK, 35.5 )

Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers ( -1.5, 32.5 )

Saturday, August 13

Kansas City Chiefs at Chicago Bears ( -3, 34.5 )

Carolina Panthers at Washington Commanders ( -3, 37 )

Indianapolis Colts at Buffalo Bills ( -1.5, 34 )

Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers ( -3, 35 )

Miami Dolphins ( -1.5, 31 ) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

New Orleans Saints ( -1.5, 33 ) at Houston Texans

Dallas Cowboys at Denver Broncos ( -2, 31 )

Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles Chargers ( -3, 30 )

Sunday, August 14

Minnesota Vikings at Las Vegas Raiders ( -3.5, 34 )

With 10 new coaches coming in, there is plenty to asses and plenty to enjoy. Now, there’s a reason why those guys are in that position and it’s rarely because the club was good. Most new coaches are looking for a culture change and it starts with cultivating a winning mentality during training camp.

Several of the coaches on this team have been in the NFL before, so it’s second nature for them. And one – Tampa’s Todd Bowles possesses a great opportunity with seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady However, for football coaches like Denver’s Nathaniel Hackett, Miami’s Mike McDaniel, and Chicago’s Matt Eberflus, it is expected that they will turn those franchises around. These new teams, who are in the midst of a rebuilding process, have a game against established teams with veteran coaches so it would be a good idea to take the newcomers in their openers while they have more on the line.

Do the Jaguars and Raiders have an advantage with a warmup already in their pocket? Odds for both these teams have been adjusted towards a victory. After Doug Pederson had a great game executing the plays the Raiders were prepared with, he may be giving their No. 1 draft pick, Trevor Lawrence, some reps both in practice and in this upcoming game.

Oddsmakers are busy trying to understand the dynamics of a team heading into the season and therefore give betters an opportunity to make some money if they do their homework. The odds for most games are going to be around 3 points, give or take a few points. You may not see many changes in the price, and you probably won’t see a lot of changes in value. If you're still unsure, the best strategy is to take the points mentioned in this post into consideration
