Our 2014 Belmont Stakes preview will include betting information, potential entries, odds, time, and channel.
The 2014 Belmont Stakes will be run on June 7th from Belmont Park in New York and the list of entries is already beginning to take form as Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner California Chrome looks to become the 1st horse to win the Triple Crown since Affirmed pulled off the trifecta way back in 1978. We’ll preview the contenders likely to run in the 2014 Belmont Stakes as well as the early betting odds already up at Bovada Sportsbook.
Barring an unforeseen circumstance, California Chrome is going to be your 2014 Belmont Stakes betting favorite and the most popular of the likely entries. My personal favorite Kentucky Derby runner Wicked Strong is also set to be amongst the field, although we had to pull our bets off of him when he drew the dreaded #20 spot in the Run for the Roses before impressing me immensely by still finishing 4th.
Other potential entries into the 2014 Belmont Stakes include 2nd place Kentucky Derby finisher Commanding Curve, 5th place Kentucky Derby finisher Samraat, 2nd place Preakness Stakes finisher Ride on Curlin, and 3rd place Kentucky Derby finisher Social Inclusion. Intense Holiday, Kid Cruz, and Candy Boy were way back in the Kentucky Derby but will likely look for better results in the Belmont Stakes, while Commissioner and Tonalist were impressive in the Peter Pan and are also set to be among the entries into the 3rd leg of the Triple Crown.
There is $1.5 million in prize money up for grabs in the 2014 Belmont Stakes and the full day at Belmont Park has 6 grade 1 races, 10 stakes, and a total of $8 million being paid out to the entries. The Belmont Stakes is a 1 1/2 mile race on dirt for 3-year-olds, making it longer the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. The channel for the 2014 Belmont Stakes is NBC (post-race coverage on Versus) and the estimated post time is roughly 6:35 PM ET.
